It lives, it dies, it lives again! As of today, streaming service Max has officially rebranded as HBO Max, a return to the name it originally launched under in May 2020.
The decision for Max to once again be known as HBO Max is attributed to Warner Bros. Discovery pivoting away from its desire for the streamer to encompass a wide swath of content for everybody, including those who might prefer Discovery Channel reality shows over HBO’s critically acclaimed series and films. The return of HBO to the name is an effort to re-emphasize that network’s power as a brand.
