Corvette C8 Splits In Half After Crashing Into Pole, Driver Somehow Survives

  • Police responded early in the morning to a Corvette crash in Irvine, California.
  • Responders found the car nearly split in half after hitting a pole.
  • The driver survived the crash but sustained injuries, according to authorities.

Sports cars and accidents tend to go hand in hand, but this one is straight out of a disaster movie. A Chevrolet Corvette C8 hit a pole and was obliterated, yet somehow, the driver managed to survive, albeit with serious injuries.

Details about what led up to the crash are sparse, but reports say that it happened just before 1 a.m. on November 29. The single-car accident occurred at the intersection of Modjeska and Still Night in Irvine. That location makes this whole situation even more strange since both roads are arrow-straight.

Based on the final location of the car, it appears as though it was traveling northeast. For whatever reason, it veered off of the road and hit the pole on the north side of Still Night road. The damage might indicate that the car was traveling at a high speed.

The limit there on Modjeska is 45 mph. Would an impact at that speed do the damage we see here? It’s unclear. The pole split the Corvette straight down the middle and the car only stopped when the pole got to the passenger compartment.

Thankfully, the man survived this, and the video shared above shows the driver, miraculously alive, being loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. Though visibly injured, the fact that he’s breathing at all is remarkable given the severity of the wreck. Police confirmed he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Notably, the license plate on the car does have a handicapped logo on it, so it’s plausible that the driver had a medical emergency or otherwise struggled to maintain control of the car.

Police are still investigating the situation. “Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos at jbalos@cityofirvine.org,” the department said in a Facebook posting. Hopefully, the driver makes a full recovery.
