1982 Ferrari 512 BBi for sale on BaT Auctions – ending December 23 (Lot #174,875)

This 1982 Ferrari 512 BBi was delivered new to Ferrari dealer Charles Pozzi S.A. in France and is one of 1,007 fuel-injected examples produced during a four-year production run, a relatively small number of which were optioned from the factory with Zegna interior wool accents. The car is powered by a 4.9-liter F110A flat-12 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Rosso Corsa over Nero leather and gray Zegna wool. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, French-market amber Cibie fog lights, center-lock 415mm five-spoke wheels, Daytona-style seats, air conditioning, Veglia instrumentation, a Pioneer AM/FM stereo paired with a graphic equalizer, a Nardi steering wheel, and a gated shifter. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2024 and a major engine-out service was performed in preparation of the sale. Now showing 5,300 miles, this 512 BBi is offered by the selling dealer with a Ferrari Classiche certificate and red book, service records, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, a jack kit, and a clean Arizona title, listing it as a Ferrari 512tr.

The Berlinetta Boxer model was styled by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and was introduced at the 1971 Turin Auto Show. The car features a steel-paneled cabin section paired with a tubular chassis. Aluminum is incorporated for the front and rear clamshells and door panels, while the lower panels are fiberglass. The 512 BBi variant was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. The cars were not officially offered in the US and were imported and federalized in-period via the gray market.

This example is finished in Rosso Corsa and features pop-up headlights, French-market Cibie fog lights with amber lenses, a front spoiler, NACA side ducts, and quad exhaust outlets.

Five-spoke 415mm wheels are secured with thee-ear knockoffs and mounted with Michelin TRX tires measuring 240/55. The 512 BBi features a fully independent suspension with unequal-length double wishbones, coilovers up front, a double coilover setup out back, and anti-roll bars fore and aft. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at all four corners. The front and rear shocks and brake hoses were replaced in August 2024.

The cabin features Daytona-style seats upholstered in Nero leather with optional gray Zegna wool inserts, which extend to the headliner as well as the sun visors and door panels. Amenities include a gated dogleg shifter, air conditioning, a Pioneer cassette stereo, a remote graphic equalizer, Kenwood speakers, leather luggage straps, and power windows.

The Nardi leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline as well as auxiliary gauges that extend to the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 5,300 miles.

The 4.9-liter F110A flat-12 features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection utilizing twin CIS fuel distributors and was factory rated at 340 horsepower. The timing belts and coolant hoses were replaced as part of the major service completed by Wormsbacher Motor Werks of Apache Junction, Arizona, in August 2024. Compression test results taken at that time are viewable on an invoice provided in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The transmission fluid was changed in August 2024.
